The Southern University Lady Jaguars volleyball team dropped their final home game of the season 3-1 to the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University.
Southern (6-16, 1-6) won the first game 33-31 off the strong performance by sophomore Ena Payne. The Breaux Bridge native finished the game with her third straight and seventh double double performance on the year with 14 kills and 14 digs. Jackson State responded with victories in the next three games 30-18, 30-21 and 32-30 to win the match.
Jackson State’s, Amanda Daniels, led the Lady Tigers with 20 kills. The Blue and Gold’s freshman Banaka Okwuone ended the game with her first double double performance of 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior Shametia Whitaker completed her final game of the season with nine kills, one service ace, seven digs and one blocking assists.
Southern will travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. to take on the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday, Nov. 3, at 5:30 p.m. The winner will earn the fourth place spot in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division and will go to the post season volleyball tournament.
