Cingular Wireless has teamed up with three Historically Black Colleges and Universities to provide select students with a real-world marketing experience through a competitive aspect with the “HBCU Campus Challenge.”
“Our main goal is to make sure that our campaign is a success and to educate the Jaguar Nation about what Cingular has to offer,” said Enid Jesse, a senior marketing major from Lafayette.
Four College of Business students, Tia Bridges, Tiphany Easterling, Enid Jesse and Iyanya Ukpong, who all were chosen by Professor Katrice Albert, will compete against Florida A& M University and North Carolina Central University to come up with the best creative marketing campaign, sell more Cingular products on campus and at local stores and to have the most fans visit the Cingular website and download the ring tones.
“I’m ecstatic about the competition,” said Albert. “With the support of the campus, we can win this challenge.”
“We have an excellent team assembled,” she said. “We look forward to going to Atlanta in January.”
So far since the campaign was launched on October 20, the team has held a freestyle contest, plenty of giveaways and free food.
Upcoming events include a text messaging contest, that will be held on Friday, Nov. 10 in the Lakefront Room of the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union at noon, Bayou Classic events and other fun-filled events that students.
“We will be doing a contest for up to 16 students to use provided Cingular phones to text certain messages,” said Tia Bridges, a senior marketing major from Monroe. “Once the message is text, the student with the fastest time will advance to the next level and the top student will win a Cingular phone.”
For the time being students, and Southern University fans, can use the official SU fan number: 2409259 or visit www.cingularsource.com/su to download ring tones and purchase Cingular products.
“It is really important that the fan number and website are utilized because it helps the team keep track of our success and part of the money comes back to the University,” said Iyanya Ukpong, a senior marketing major from Brooklyn, NY.
