Four years ago, I made my first trip to the Louisiana Superdome, courtesy of the SGA. That year, I saw Grambling lose a heartbreaker 41-44. Even with the loss, I felt that sense of Grambling pride running through my veins.
Now, four years later, I still have that Grambling pride, but I’ve been disgusted by what has been happening at our university.
The Judson administration has done NOTHING to advance the university. Let’s be real; the university is so backwards that we don’t know which way we are going.
I thought the new dorms were good until I researched and found something interesting. The Board of Regents has only approved ONE new dormitory to be built. That means that only ONE dorm is supposed to be built.
If only ONE dorm is to be built, why waste money on two other dorms that jasn’t been approved and can’t be built?
Why would you let the Board of Regents approve the demolition of “ten existing sub-standard” dorms when you only have ONE dorm to replace those ten? I’ve long heard the rumors of Louisiana trying to turn Grambling into a community college. Is it true?
By the way, what happened to the Centennial Fund, a fund that former students paid so it could help build the new Student Union and Cafeteria? Why are you imposing a $22 increase in student fees for a new Union when technically it’s not new? It’s renovated!
Why would we pay $22 a semester to RENOVATE a building that is too small for a Student Union? After being at Southern and seeing their Union, there’s absolutely NO reason we cannot have a Union in similar or bigger size.
Where is the new Director of Financial Aid? After seeing the worst registration in recent history and probably in history, why hasn’t the administration started looking for leadership in that area? When are they FINALLY going to realize that we need more financial aid counselors?
Why is it that students owe more money in loans than they received? We can take out a loan for $1,000, but we will only receive around $935. However, when we graduate, we are asked to pay: $1,000. That baffles me. I think it has something to do with those Chase E-Funds cards that they make sure you have.
I could go on about the NCAA violations and how some department heads are never on campus, but there’s not enough space.
I’m tired of biting my tongue. I’ve bit it for the longest, and it’s bleeding. But that is the blood that I’ll shed to ensure the survival of dear ole Grambling. Maybe I should bite it more often…
