The Southern University Lady Jaguars soccer team placed three players on the All-SWAC soccer team.
Freshman defender Tiffany Cantu and sophomore midfielders Kendall Smith and Almarie Soto-Ortiz all received second-team honors. Cantu finishes the year with one goal and two assists from the defender position. Soto-Ortiz completed the year with five goals off of 20 shots. Smith receives her second post season honor of her career as she was named to the first-team during her freshman year. The West Chapel, Fla. native recorded a team leading seven goals during the 2006 season.
“These young ladies have really been a big asset to us,” said Head Coach John Knighten. “They all provide special skills that we need to accomplish our goals.”
The Lady Jaguars are currently competing in the 2006 SWAC Women’s Soccer Tournament which kicks off on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Ala. at the Bulldog Soccer Complex. Game 1 pits Eastern Division’s second-seed Mississippi Valley State University against third-seeded Southern University in the West. The winner of the game will face Grambling State University at noon on November 3.
