In efforts to get students at Southern more involved with the university’s alumni federation, C Norman St. Amant, vice chancellor for enrollment management, Dana Carpenter, associate vice chancellor for enrollment management and Donald Wade, alumni association national president, launched the Southern University Student Alumni Association.
“By joining SUSSA, students are able to connect with those who have graduated and are working in their purposed field of study, by way of summer internships, or as a mentor,” said Rita Hill, faculty advisor.
The organization is currently planning and participating in many events throughout the community, including mentoring and tutoring.
“SUSSA is a way to learn to be an active individual in the community, which in turn makes you a better person,” said SUSSA member Ashley Hill, a psychology major from New Orleans.
USSA membership is also a way for students to prepare for life after graduation.
“SUSSA is a great way for students to learn about future careers in their major, and you are able to prepare while your still enrolled,” said Kristie Jackson, a senior political science major from Las Vegas.
SUSSA is planning a membership next month. Membership requirements are the completion of 12 hours and a 2.2 GPA.
