The 3M Corporation, an American producer of over 55,000 brand-name products, presented a check for $50,000 to the Southern University Department of Management, Marketing and E-Business on Feb. 8 in the Magnolia Room of Mayberry Dining Hall.
According to a press release, the grant will enable the management, marketing and E-business departments to develop and record a sales role-play exercise laboratory, then the students will be able to watch the recording and get critiqued on their performance.
“The facility can also be used to conduct interviews, workshops, and seminars but the most important thing is that students can use it to watch themselves and see their mistakes,” said George Kirk, principal investigator and associate professor.
Students are already excited about the ability to have such an innovative way to learn.
“I think it’s great, the program that 3M is doing with Southern University,” said Moshai Gibbs, a freshman marketing major from Calif. “The people I have met at 3M are great people.”
Established in Two Harbors, Minn. in 1920, the company has grown to become a $20 billion corporation with products sold in more than 60 countries.
The corporation has also been involved in humanitarian affairs, contributing $2.5 million to Hurricane Katrina relief.
“3M has had a long relationship with Southern,” said Barbara Kaufmann manager of the Education Giving Program at 3M. “Southern is one of our partners of frontline sales.”
