It came down to the last game as the women’s tennis team failed to capture their fifth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference championship against Texas Southern. The defending champions 4-2 loss gave the Texas Southern much more to celebrate as their men’s team also took home the title.
“I am still very proud of this team and what they have been able to accomplish,” said Jeff Conyers, tennis head coach. “We just came up a little short this season. We will be back and fighting for the title again next season, for sure.”
In the championship match, seniors Francisca Osedumme and Tania Hicks defeated members of the Texas Southern team, but Bethlehem Workeneh and Sidney Lartigue were defeated in the singles competition.
In the doubles competition, Southern couldn’t pull off a victory in either match and one was left unfinished. Osedumme received SWAC Women’s Tennis All-Tournament Honors.
