The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team split with the Texas Southern
University Lady Tigers in their 4-game Southwestern Athletic Conference softball series.
Southern (16-19 overall, 9-7 SWAC) did not start the series as well as hoped managing only five hits out of 23 total at bats. They had no runs scored in the bottom of the fifth inning in game one, 4-0, giving senior pitcher Jamila Taylor her sixth lost of the season.
The Jags went to business in the game two, putting four on the board in the fifth and two more in the seventh to pick up their first victory against Texas Southern 7-2.
The next day proved no different for the Lady Jags as they continued their offensive performance with12 hits of 29 at bats for 13 runs. Sophomore Brittany Richardson went 2 of 4 with 4 RBIs while senior Samisha Bledsoe had a 1.000 day at the plate going 3 of 3 for 2 RBIs and one run scored. Roberts earned her third win on the year and had a 2 of 3 for 2 runs scored day at the plate.
In the final game of the series, the Lady Tigers decided they were not about to let the Lady Jags come in and take three game and took the final game of the series 4-1. Southern completed the series 2-2 and remains second in the SWAC Western Division.
Freshman Lauren Dodd hit her first collegiate homerun and finished the game 2 of 3 with three RBIs. Richardson completed the game 2 of 3 with 2 runs scored and three RBIs. Bledsoe finished the game 3 of 4 and won her third game of the season with the complete game.
The Lady Jaguars will host the Jackson State University Lady Tigers at Lady Jaguar field on April 4 at 3:30 p.m.
