Guaranty Broadcasting Company, LLC is expected to visit Southern University to promote careers in mass communication.
Representatives from Guaranty Broadcasting will talk to students about the importance of knowing a lot of information and gaining lots of experience. The representatives will spend approximately 30 minutes in each classroom so that the students get an adequate amount of information.
“I want to help students to understand the opportunities available,” said Owens Webber, general manager of Guaranty Broadcasting.
Webber said he hopes to prepare students for a career in mass communication. The campus visit is aimed at juniors and seniors majoring in mass communication. The purpose is to identify students looking for a position with the company and offer them recruiting options.
“This opportunity for recruitment is really good, because we as mass communication majors really don’t have a lot of internships thrown our way,” said Allisa Scott, a sophomore mass communications major from New Orleans.
Guaranty recently awarded two students at Southern a $500 scholarship toward paying for their undergraduate tuition. The students went through an extensive review process for selection.
Veronica Moss, a business administration major, and Lakeisha Bell, a mass communication major, were chosen for the scholarship.
Webber said the scholarship encourages students to set goals and succeed. It is offered once a year.
Guaranty helps to produce radio stations like Eagle 98.1, 100.7 New Country, X 104.5, and Country Legends 107.3.
