Itta Bena, Miss. — Two games, though contrasting in style, ended as the same when the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes swept them both from Southern in softball action Saturday at the Devilettes Softball Complex and claimed three of the four games in their weekend series.
Game one would prove the shocker of the weekend. After the two teams played two extra innings games Friday, the Devilettes exploded with nine runs and finished off the Lady Jaguars 9-0 in five innings. Though pounding out nine hits as a team, the Devilettes were led at the plate by second baseman Amber Stewart. Stewart finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run and two RBI’s. Southern’s Jennifer Hodrick and Candice Stevens each picked up one of the Lady Jaguars two hits.
On the mound, Devilettes hurler Nikki Stouder recorded five strikeouts in five innings of work, while picking up the win in Valley’s second shutout of the weekend. Lady Jaguars’ starter Samisha Bledsoe recorded the lost as she was belted for six earned runs in three innings.
Game two would serve as dejà vu, as the Lady Jags once again found themselves in extra innings with the Devilettes emerging victorious 4-3 in 10 innings.
