BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jacklyn Winfield, the Southern University Jaguars senior guard from Wesson, Miss., was chosen as the first Southwestern Athletic Conference women’s basketball player of the week for the 2001-02 basketball season (for games from 11/16-12/9),
Winfield spearheaded Southern University to wins over Georgia Tech, South Carolina State, and Florida A&M. In nine games, Winfield has hit 73% (30-41) from the free throw line, snagged 29 steals (3.2 avg.), and has averaged 20 ppg with a high of 28 against the University of South Alabama.
Winfield was named to both the Auburn Tip Off Classic and the U.S. Celluar Classic All Tournament Teams. In the U.S. Cellular Classic, she was also named MVP.
