The SU Cross Country team started their season off on a good foot. SU placed second in men and women in the meet against Mississippi Valley State, Alcorn State, and Nicholls State. Nicholls State placed first, Alcorn third, and MVSU lasted.
The meet was held at Highland Rd. Park, one of the harder sites to run. At 9:30 the girls were lined up and ready to run. Within twenty minutes they were finished their 3.2 mile run.
“I feel good that I came in first. I really wanted to run better than a 13’14 but I really like how we came in first second and third,” said Nicholls Cassie Jones as her and her two other teammates cross the finish line.
“We did well considering that normally the first meet doesn’t start until two weeks from now. We have some things to work on but I am very proud of us.” said Kenya Warren who placed 6th in the meet.
The men preformed well in their 5-mile run, but they were missing a strong part of their team Clary Reed.
“Were at a good starting point but Conference meet will be total different” stated sophomore Charles Moon. The meet showed Southern were they stand and what they need to improve upon as a team.
“We’re still not satisfied,” said team captain Chibale Bandele.
