Once you enter college everyone must come to a harsh realization that this is the beginning of a new career in our lives. This is the place where boys and girls become men and women.
In the process of growing, we often overlook the fact that our environment may dictate the characterization of ourselves and of how people perceive us. The question we need to ask ourselves is, ” are we growing maturely or materialistically?”
We have so many cliques on campus that as people, we sometimes forget about ourselves. We overlook that our friends make up who we are.
For instance, if your friends are just there because of some possession that you own, then there is a problem, because the situation is not a mature friendship, it is just based on materialistic factors.
However, if your friends are not condemning you, are encouraging you to finish college, and do not care about what you own, then your relationship is a mature one. It is not just based on mature substances.
You should ask yourself, do I know where my relationship with God is located in my heart?
Do I know where my life is going? Do I harbor myself around friends that care for me or do they just support my worldly needs? Do I look at things spiritually, intellectually, or materialistically ?
Always remember that association brings about assimilation.
Be true to yourself at all times. If not, you will hurt yourself. I can personally say that all of my friends are mature due to the fact that they love God with all their hearts, minds, and spirits. We encourage each other, support each other and pray for each other.
We let each other know that we are standing on the promises of God. We know that no weapons formed against us shall prosper for they shall be condemned in the day of judgement.
Remember that a friend is not a person who you see or hear from everyday. When distress calls, a true friend will say, “Let’s pray about it and just let Jesus work it out, while we do our part.”
So, again, the question I pose to you is are your friends mature or materialistic?
