After toppling the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 4-0, the Southern University volleyball team fell to 4-4, going 1-4 against Texas State University.
TSU ripped through SU 30-22, 30-15, 26-30, 30-27.
“We had a bad night,” said Latrecia Samuel, member of the SU volleyball team.
Texas Southern, now 5-1 for the season, produced an average of 12.5 kills per game, over Southern’s ten kills per game.
“We started slowly, and simply couldn’t get our rhythm back,” stated head coach Nathaniel Denu.
In game one, TSU outscored SU 30-22, with three five point rallies. Texas Southern also went on to win game two and four.
Southern did manage to come out of the match with one victory for the night. In game three, Southern struggled to a 30-26 win.
TSU’s Paige Thompson led the team to victory with 17 kills in game two. Southern University’s star player, Mayumi Takeuchi, led defensively with 14 kills for the night.
The SU volleyball team will be back in action, in a two-day tournament in Jacksonville, Alabama at Jacksonville State University, Friday – Saturday, September 21-22. They return home, September 27 against Dillard University.
