On Tuesday, September 25th, the Southern University System announced the establishment of 10 new endowed professorships. This is the largest number of professorships ever awarded in a single year.
At an awards ceremony held at University Place on G. Leon Netterville Drive, on the SU campus. The following departments received professorships:
The Chemistry Department, Department of Environmental Toxicology, Thurgood Marshall Law School (funded by Walter Dumas), College of Science, the School of Public Policy, School of Business, and the School of Nursing received four professorships.
“Twenty nine professorships have been established since 1997,”said Leon Tarver, Southern University System President.
Increasing the number of professorships for the SU System has been one of Tarver’s major priorities. According to Tarver even more greatness in the future is predicted.
Each donor donated $60,000 that was matched by $40,000 donated by the state.
The BASF Corporation donated to the endowed professorship in chemistry The Baton Rouge Area Foundation donated to the endowed professorship in nursing, Walter Dumas donated to the endowed professorship in environmental toxicology, B.K. Agnihotri donated to the endowed professorship in Law, General Health System donated to the endowed professorship in nursing, Drs. James and Jewel Prestage/Kellogg’s donated to the endowed professorship in the School of Public Policy, Peter Moncrieffe donated to the endowed professorship in business, Our Lady of the Lake donated to the endowed professorship in Nursing, W.E. “Bill” Tucker donated to the endowed professorship in business, and The Women’s Hospital donated to the endowed professorship in nursing.
