Dear Jaguar Nation,
This letter comes to you with a somber yet deliberate heart. The recent events in our nation call for us to wage war as do the event right here in the Jaguar Nation. Like terrorists, individuals have threatened the security of the students of this institution in a manner that shall not be tolerated. September 20th marked the date of the second armed robbery on Southern University’s campus.
As your president, this issue concerns me, and as an on-campus resident, this troubles me. I am now adding to my previously developed plan, along with other SGA officials, to tighten security on this campus to once again make it safe for all students and staff.
I write today Jags to say I need your help. Phase one of my plan is the easiest, but I will need a combined effort from all students. As we speak, call boxes and security cameras are being installed around campus to help better protect the nomadic population throughout the day. I am asking that as the night falls on our home that you please make efforts to walk in groups. This will help to prevent isolated incidents where we may have women walking alone and will hopefully deter criminal behavior from taking place.
Next, I would ask that we just keep our eyes and ears open. If you have knowledge of or see any types of criminal behavior in progress, never be afraid to call you campus police at 771-2770. They are here to serve and keep this campus safe.
This address is not to send you into a state of panic. It is to simply make you aware of your surroundings and to ask your cooperation in keeping our campus safe. Anyone who violates the “Laws of the Bluff” will not be tolerated and shall be handled in a speedy manner!
