Midterms are over, we are all waiting to see our midterm grade so we can decide whether we drop that class or not. Finals are around the corner; crunch time is definitely here.
Some of us will be graduating in December and some of us still have more time to serve.
First let me say congratulations to those who will be ending their collegiate career but to those who are going to be here come January it’s time to take a breath.
Most of us are steadily dreaming of Thanksgiving, Bayou Classic, and Bourbon Street but they don’t seem to be coming fast enough.
And if you are anything like me studying is the last thing on your mind. Don’t scream, just breathe!
Ever notice that right about this time the air and weather seem to be getting colder and calmer and you aren’t (well if we didn’t live in Louisiana, they would be).
Just remember like the season’s change, you should change too.
It’s the fall rut. Something that most of us go through.
You start dreaming of that first fall semester on campus and wishing that every fall could be like that first one. You remember suddenly that your refund check hasn’t come in, there are dozens of papers due, and you just know that that particular teacher has it in for you.
Worst of all you realize you are broke just like the rest of us.
Get over it and stop worrying all your doing is making that time that could be some of the best times of your life go by faster. Worrying just occupies your time. Stop and watch the world around, make time wait for you.
Go to a poetry reading, chill with friends, go out on a Monday night just cause, or do what I did, grab a minor in “union”ological sciences.
Contrary to popular belief a great number of the people that are always in the union have above a 3.5–Honor’s College Represent! –Why is that? Because they have, learned that the key to college is balance.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s ok to worry; everybody does sometime. But you have to realize when it’s time to just say, “Forget about it!” and blow off that huge assignment for a few hours, it’ll be there when you get back.
As will your books, your work, your life and your future, but you’ll be different, better for it.
And remember, just breathe. Don’t let the season change without you.
