To be eligible to participate in any of the Federal Student Aid programs, at Southern University–Baton Rouge Campus, a student must make Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined below.
1. Students with less than 60 earned hours are ineligible if they are on Scholastic Probation (See Course Catalog page 23 for the definition of Scholastic Probation). Students remain ineligible until they are no longer on Scholastic Probation. Academic Probation status will be determined by the Registrar’s Office.
2. Students with 60 earned hours must have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, to be eligible to receive Financial Aid. Students remain ineligible until they achieve at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
3. To be eligible to receive Financial Aid, students who register for full-time status must earn at least 24 hours of credit for the last two terms of enrollment or must earn at least 12 hours of credit if the student enrolls for only 1 term, excluding Summer. However, any hours earned during the Summer, in which progression is calculated, can be used in the 24 or 12 hour calculation. Students remain ineligible to receive Financial Aid until they earn at least 24 hours of credit for the last two terms of enrollment or at least 12 hours of credit for 1 term of enrollment.
4. Students who register for:
3/4 time status must earn 9 hours,
1/2 time status must earn 6 hours, and
1/2 time status must earn all hours pursued
to be eligible to receive Financial Aid. Students remain ineligible to receive Financial Aid until they have earned the required hours for the last term of enrollment.
5. Students may only receive Financial Aid for a maximum of 150% of the hours required in their current major. For undeclared majors the calculation will be based on 150% of 124 hours. (150% includes ALL HOURS ATTEMPTED)**
6. Drops, withdrawals, incompletes, and/or repeats will affect a student’s eligibility if they do not complete the minimum hours each year or the average hours for all years.***
7. For students who withdraw from all courses after the official reporting date, grades earned and the hours attempted for the semester will become a part of their academic and financial records.
8. All transfers and returning students must have earned at least 67% of all hours attempted, in conjunction with the appropriate grade point average and academic status for their classification to be eligible for Title IV funding.
***PLEASE NOTE***
The above policy applies to all transfer, continuing and re-entry students for all academic session, including those applicants who have not previously participated in Federal Aid Programs.

** Attempted Hours–All hours enrolled as of the last day to add classes for each term.
*** Changing curriculums may affect the student’s eligibility for Financial Aid.
