The Southern University Lady Jaguars volleyball team continued its up and down season this week defeating the Dillard Lady Blue Devils and losing to the Tulane Lady Green Wave.
The Lady Jags (7-8, 3-1) who are still struggling to reach .500 for the season defeated Dillard (30-28, 29-31, 20-30, 30-22, 15-10). In a five game match the Lady Jags won the first game but dropped the next two before rebounding strongly to take the next two games.
Stephanie Wright led the Lady Jags to victory recording 17 kills along with Kashanna Bridges’ 16.
“Stephanie is an offensive threat for us. We try to go to her when we are in deep trouble,” said Nathaniel Denu, SU head volleyball coach.
In Tuesday’s game against the Lady Green Wave the Lady Jags dropped all three games in the match (11-30, 19-30, 21-30).
“They play with much spirit; unfortunately there are times when they let it get away from them and we cannot allow that to happen,” stated Denu.
Mayumi Takeuchi leads the team with 130 kills on the year she is followed by Maya Valerie with 103 and Wright with 95. The Lady Jags will next see action at Alcorn State next Tuesday.
