“Be there,” or “Be square,” Saturday October 6 at the Southern University Homecoming parade the most crunk Homecoming parade around.
“The parade is a good tradition for the students of the good ole’ SU and for the community supporters,” said Wilbur Jones, homecoming chairperson.
The parade starts at 8 a.m. The starting point is at Elm Grove Garden leading the crowd down Harding Boulevard then to it’s final destination Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church on Scenic.
The Southern University homecoming parade is a 25-year-old-tradition. The parade was first held on campus with only 15 units or participating groups but has expanded to Scenic Hwy and now includes 75-total-units.
“Each year the parade gets larger-and-larger,” said Wilbur Jones, the homecoming steering chairperson..
Some of the participants of the parade includes the Grand Marshal Jewel “Mama Jag” Jefferson, Miss Southern Krystal Pugh along with other campus queens, Miss Southern University -Shreveport and Miss Southern University – New Orleans.
Also participating are local high school bands including Southern Lab, Glen Oaks, McKinley, Jackson, John Mc Donogh, West Feliciana, Plaquemine, and Capital.
