A Southern University student was found dead in a car last Wednesday, October 17, in Shreveport, police said.
Ishmail Abdul-Rahman, 23, was found with a single gun shot to the head off of Baird and Woodcrest streets. The weapon, along with one spent casing, was also found inside the vehicle.
“We’re still investigating whether it was accidental, suicide, or a homicide,” said Sgt. Jimmy Muller, of the Shreveport Police Department. The incident is considered to be a suspicious death until a coroner’s report can be reviewed.
Services for Rahman were held at 2:00p.m. Saturday, October 20, at Masjid Al-Taqwa in Shreveport.
“He was the kind of student you wanted in your class,” said Albert Samuels, assistant professor, political science, “He just didn’t come around when he wanted something…”
Rahman, a senior political science major, was a former Southern University at Shreveport Student Government Association president and a former member of the board of supervisors.
