In Saturday’s game against the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M, out of a possible 52 points, the Jaguars only managed a paltry 23 points. Jaguar football team…You are the weakest link.
Terrance Levy, of 33 attempted passes you completed 16 with three interceptions. Levy…You are a steadily weakening link.
I will be honest. I am a true Jaguar fan. When they win I am probably happier than they are, and when they lose I hurt. But whether we win or we lose I am highly critical of my football team. I can criticize and praise them all in the same breath.
As I was walking towards the newspaper office Monday after the game, I came across Terrence Levy, and I told him “nice game,” he said “Thank you.” I immediately made him aware of the fact that I had said “nice game” and not “good game.” He just laughed because he and I both know that had it not been for the Dog-Day defense, Saturday’s game would have had a different ending. Do not get me wrong, I am glad we won. I just know that we were capable of winning by a larger margin.
If this were a game of the “Weakest Link,” Devin Lewis, with his six receptions for 156 yards and two touchdowns in last weekend’s game, would have emerged as the victor. Lewis saved the Jaguars behind.
Lewis, kickoff return specialist Ezra Landry (who has a total of 551 all-purpose yards for the year) and newcomer Carl Singleton proved to be the bonding links for the Jaguars on Saturday.
Who has disappointed me greatly this year is Terrance Levy. I mean, he is doing his job, I just feel he could be doing a better job. And Levy you know how the Jaguar Nation is, if you don’t want to hear the crowd yelling, “We want Fisher!” (And that’s Fisher as in backup QB Anthony Fisher), the way we did when Troy was in the game, then you may need to step up your game plan.
Yes Levy, it was your ability to take risk, but right now I need for you to be a little more disciplined, before I myself, who happens to be a HUGE Levy fan, goes on the Fisher campaign. Or I might even go out on a shorter limb and try to speed up Mr. Troy Williams’ comeback.
This weekend we play Jackson State, a team who managed to slip past us 13-10 in the Superdome last season. A team who was beaten 61-58 by a team we demolished 32-7. Now I am going to go out on another limb and say we should beat Jackson State with just a little effort. But, then again I am also the one who thought we would never lose 41-7 to Tulane, a team that was 0-4, a team who probably won’t win another game this season.
Jaguars change my mind, be the strongest link in the SWAC, be the million-dollar winner in a game of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” In other words, shape up or you will hear the words:
“You are the weakest link…Goodbye.”
