The SUPD is a name synonymous with tickets, sleeping, and attitudes that have annoyed almost every student on Southern University’s campus at least once. Right? Right, and we as a student body would be much better off if we just got rid of the SUPD as a whole because they’re not doing work on this campus anyway. Right? Wrong.
After having a long conversation with one of SU’s finest, Officer Scott Randell (see it’s spelled right) I realized that there is more to the story.
Does it really dawn on students that these officers are just doing what they are paid to do?
Everyday I hear someone complain about tickets that they received or how they had trouble getting to the back of campus. It makes me wonder if they realize that all these things are done for their safety.
It is really convenient to park on the side of Harding and every which way down the strip but that is not only endangering your car but the cars that can’t see when they are pulling out into traffic. I have been in one of those wrecks because of not being able to see on-coming traffic.
This also includes the check-point in the back, the officer’s that are there are just trying to protect those students that reside in the dormitories, so stop throwing fits when you have to walk instead of ride.
True, there are a couple of arrogant, overzealous police officers on campus but you cannot blame the whole group for one-person ‘s attitudes or actions. These are people, merely human beings trying to do their profession to the best of their ability, some more efficient then others.
Another thing, these people are not the final say on the law on campus. The have superiors that they have to answer to for their actions and everything they are doing is legal. Actually these officer more than likely are holding back.
How would you feel if teachers complained about all students just because of one student’s actions or attitudes. Somewhat un-fair isn’t it?
So the next time you got beef with an officer or your feel as though you have been treated un-fairly, think back, check the angle and put yourself in there shoes, you may find out that your giving a good cop a hard time for no reason at all.
