Coming off a great high after defeating the Alcorn State Lady Braves the Southern University Lady Jaguars fell hard against Grambling State University.
The Lady Tigers (10-19) defeated the Lady Jags (10-14, 3-2) in three straight games 30-27, 30-21, and 30-22,.
This loss was another in a disappointing season for the Lady Jags with the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship coming up, head coach Nathaniel Denu finds himself searching for an answer to his teams trouble.
“I was shocked at the way we played tonight, we worked our butts off to get ready for the SWAC tournament. We played so well against Alcorn and I was expecting some improvement, for Grambling to beat us three games to nothing something has to be wrong,” said Denu.
Mayumi Takeuchi lead the Lady Jags with 11 kills but the Lady Tigers took control early and kept the pressure on during the match.
“We had very poor passing, they’re not concentrating at all no one’s blocking. Mentally the team was not ready, Grambling does not have a better team than us,” replied Denu.
This upset dropped the lady jags to a 3-2 SWAC record.
“As a team we didn’t play too well. We weren’t mentally prepared to play. We need to step up and come together as a team to get ready for SWAC,” said Latrecia Samuel.
Leading the Lady Jags in kills is Takeuchi with 209 followed by Maya Valerie with 170.
