NEW ORLEANS—Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said he will press Barack Obama for increased funding of hurricane and flood protection in his home state when he and other governors meet with the president-elect today.
Jindal, who left New Orleans Monday to join many other governors in Philadelphia for a meeting with Obama, said he wants the new administration to know that Congress has authorized billions of dollars for hurricane and flood protection for Louisiana that has yet to be funded.
“There are literally billions of dollars for Louisiana that could be pushed through the pipeline, that have already been allocated … but has yet to come to our communities,” he told reporters at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
Jindal also said he will push for the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agen-cy to report directly to the White House instead of through the Department of Homeland Security, a change he said would help Louisiana cut through red tape.
