To my fellow African Americans,
it is important that I say this: while the Democrat side of the presidential primary has been entertaining, please don’t vote for Hillary Clinton based on the whole “Bill Clinton is the first Black President” matra because at the end of the day he isn’t.
Let’s start off with the simple fact that if last time I remembered, skin and ethnic background matters a whole lot when it comes to ‘being black.’
Just because Clinton smoked weed, had an affair with a fat, white woman, raised by a single parent and played saxophone doesn’t make him black.
There are many students on Southern’s campus that don’t do any of those things so does that make them only black by skin tone?
Just because he grew up poor doesn’t make him black either because I see rich snobs of color gracing Southern’s campus on a daily basis.
Don’t let whites nor blacks bamboozle you into thinking that to become a member of the black race, you have to live your life as if you were in a Lil Wayne music video because there is oh so much more to us than that.
Well some may say that policy wise, he was for black people.
Well…uh…..no.
In fact, he was the exact opposite.
Let’s start off with the bane of the black felons existence, “The Three Strikes Law.”
Because of that law, black males today have the highest prison rate that is too high. And we still have thousands of drug dealers running the inner city streets.
Also, let’s not get on his “Welfare to Work Program,” which forced mainly black single mothers into working extremely below minimum wage jobs to barely support their families.
What about his lack of help during the Rwandan Genocide (See “Hotel Rwanda”)? The then-president wouldn’t send anything; in fact, he demanded $15 million. Effed up, huh?
If Bill Clinton were in fact “a brotha,” some of his acts would have him at the end of the day working at McDonald’s for minimum wage.
Black people as a whole should be ashamed of themselves for even thinking of calling him that because at the end of the day, it lessens our credibility as a race.
Like writer Geveryl Robinson wrote in an opinion in Savannah Morning News in early January of this year, “He’s the ‘other white meat’ that black people have been fooled to believe is better for them, just because he happens to have a little more flavor.”
