The Southern bowling team took first place in the Western Division at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Bowling East Round-Up on Sunday, with Jackson State taking first in the Eastern Division.
In the Western Division, Southern (20-4, 11-1) still holds a commanding lead, despite losing to Prairie View, 915-890. This was the first loss for Southern in SWAC play but was not enough for SU to lose its first-place spot in the Western Division.
The Lady Panthers (16-8, 8-4) also beat Texas Southern, 843-836. Texas Southern (11-13, 7-5) also advanced from the Western Division will be the third team to advanced with an 11-13 overall, 7-5 conference record.
Jackson State (18-6, 8-1) took over the top spot from Alabama A&M (19-5, 7-2) after beating the Bulldogs. The two teams will be advancing from the Eastern Division to the 2008 SWAC Women’s Bowling Championship tournament, along with Alabama State (7-17, 3-6).
The 2008 SWAC Women’s Bowling Championship is Feb. 22-24 in Bessemer, Ala.,at the Holiday Bowl Fun Center.
