An unidentified man was arrested and charged with battery and assault Wednesday afternoon near Stewart Hall.
According to graduate mass communications student from Oklahoma Ashley Stevenson, the man was terrorizing students in her one o’clock TV News Editing class which led her to call the police.
Stevenson said that he not only yelled highly offensive language to her and other females that were attending the class, but also tried to touch them inappropriately.
“I think he was on something to act like that,” said Stevenson. “Though nobody found him scary, they were just annoyed.”
According to senior mass communications major from New Orleans Kenyetta Collins, once the instructor of the class, Michael Kable entered the room, the still unidentified man told the teacher that he had to go use the bathroom and that he would be back.
“Once he left, we locked the doors and that’s when Ashley called the police,” said Collins.
He was then arrested some moments later and taken to the Southern University Police Department station.
While being interviewed at the police station about the bizarre incident, the unidentified man began to breathe funny when the police to call the ambulance, Stevenson said.
Stevenson was also told by the police that earlier, he had caused a disturbance at the Subway restaurant near campus on Harding Boulevard but they weren’t available for comment.
Collins said she saw him near the Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity tree talking to some female students who appeared to look “afraid and worried.”
As of printing time, the police declined comment.
The man was in his early twenties, wore a green shirt with white shorts, was dark skinned and had dreadlocks according to Stevenson’s description.
