Chi Eta Phi hosted their annual Chi Week. Chi Week is to inform nursing majors and nursing prospects about the advantages of joining the organization. The week long event kicked off Tuesday and will continue until tomorrow.
“We invite all nursing majors and students that want to become nursing majors to come out and participate in Chi Week,” said the nursing sorority Vice President Chequita Hilliard, a senior nursing major from St. Francisville.
Chi Eta Phi’s events were hosted in various places on and off Southern University’s campus. On Tuesday they hosted a “meet and greet” session in the school of nursing where students met current Chi Eta Phi members. On Wednesday, they hosted a program for stress relief and stress management at Scotlandville Library. They also had Mary Kay Cosmetics representative Kristian Sabre demonstrate healthy skin care techniques.
Other activities included a “Who Wants to be a Super Nurse?” on Thursday, in which participants answered questions based on nursing and the winner received a gift basket.
“We host Chi Week every year in hopes to inspire nursing majors to join our sorority,” said Hilliard.
Today’s Gameday event will be held at the Nursing Student Lounge and help kickoff the 2008 football season.
Chi members will discuss how to manage, save and spend money. Tomorrow Chi Eta Phi will be located at a women and children’s shelter. Because of the nature of the shelter, students who are interested should contact Chartice Coleman at 225.485.7170 for more information.
“We would like to show what we stand for and how we love to give back,” said Coleman, a graduate nursing major and member of the sorority from Waverly, Tenn.
At the shelter, they plan to teach children about the importance of healthy eating and exercising. They also plan to do arts and crafts with the children. The sorority is taking donations of clothes for Saturday from anyone who wants to give a donation.
“I think it’s really good to see Chi Eta Phi give back to the community,” said Shanda Green, a senior nursing major from Shreveport.
